Today, Dr. Charles Covert and his staff, along with other Houston psychiatrists, took part in a medical educational program entitled “Managing Adult Patients with Manic or Mixed Episodes Associated with Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia”. The presentation was made by Dr. Daniel K. Suzuki, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and a board certified psychiatrist.
Dr. Suzuki discussed the indications for the atypical neuroleptic medication, Saphris (asenapine sublingual tablets) and its FDA indications for:
- Bipolar I Disorder, as monotherapy for manic or mixed conditions or as an adjunct to mood stabilizers, lithium and Depakote, and
- Schizophrenia, in acute episodes or for maintenance.
Dr. Covert and Dr. Suzuki consulted prior to the talk and exchanged email addresses, agreeing to consult with each other on selected cases in the future.
Dr. Suzuki was warmly received by the Houston psychiatrists in attendance.
